Film is alive!/

In these times, when the discussion about the Death of Film is all around, we are particularly happy to announce that 35 mm film is very much alive at Hocus Focus. Yes, indeed! We are just now scanning commercial film shot on 35 mm for colour grading in our Mistika suite. After an extensive upgrading, our Golden Eye film scanner is back in business with new cameras and larger sensors. Just to remind you, Hocus Focus has the knowledge and equipment to help you with development, scanning and colour grading of 16 mm and 35 mm film. Film has never looked better.

The Big Screen/

Hocus Focus can now with great certainty announce that our colour grading and stereoscopic 3D cinema is up and running. Actually, we have already graded the first feature film for the Big Screen at our premises. Alain Betrancourt, who is a DP from Los Angeles, has visited Oslo and worked together with Haavard Albertsen on the up and coming film ELEVATOR. The cinema room has been through extensive rebuilding and upgrading to meet the many established, strict and necessary demands out there, to be able to work for the big screen. The Hocus Focus cinema is ideal for every production intended for screenings, not only feature films, but also documentaries, short films and commercial films. Bring your own popcorn, get in the mood and take a look yourself.

Congratulation/

A bit late, but not forgotten: Congratulation with The Great Spellemann Award for the Best Music Video of the year 2010 to everyone involved in Yoga Fire’s “Superkul med kniv (=super cool with knife). What an excellent choice made by the people of Norway. Director Lasse Gretland’s epos from the wild frontier is evolving from ship to shore and looks damn good, is highly entertaining and totally unpredictable. In danger of repeating ourselves, just the excellent schizophrenic warfare scene in the end of this music video is worth a million dollars. We want more! Honour and glory to the whole team and especially photographer Jon Gaute Espevold who shot the video on the XDCAM format, editor Martin Stoltz and Haavard Albertsen, who worked online and with colour grading at Hocus Focus.

Spellemann 2010/

Coming up: The Norwegian Music Award Spellemannprisen with historical roots back to 1972. The fifth of March is the date and the location is Oslo Spektrum. The happy news is that in the category of the Best Music Video of the year, our all time favourites are nominated: Casiokids with “En vill hest”, directed by Kristoffer Borgli and Yoga Fire with “Superkul med kniv”, directed by Lasse Gretland. It has nothing to do with the Hocus Focus post-production involvement, of course. To refresh your memory, you can here choose between bubbling cereals, African sculptures, Omen references and a skinny young boy doing dance moves on a fluffy carpet AND/OR David Crockett, the Wild Frontier, Jenny Skavlan and a schizophrenic warfare scene – oh yeah!
